Description

Akadema is the most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Their increasing market share can be attributed to their innovative quality and professionally designed product line. Focusing on the quality, feel, and small details has lifted Akadema to the next level. With a goal to provide products for all ball players, Akadema has created the new Prodigy Youth Series (ARC88). Constructed from U.S. Steer hide throughout the pocket and webbing, the Prodigy Series provides ideal toughness and padding. On the back of the glove, this series features the exclusive AkademaLyte leather that decreases the overall weight. This not only allows these gloves to be more easily playable, it also significantly decreases the break-in time to the point where these gloves are virtually game-ready out of the box. With the younger player in mind, Akadema slightly narrowed the finger stalls on these gloves to provide a more snug fit. Akadema: Bring Your "A Game"! Free Shipping!

Warranty

Akadema gloves will come with a manufacturer’s warranty of nine (9) months from the purchase date. This warranty will cover ripping and tears of the leather of the glove. It will not include ripped laces -or- scuffing of the glove’s leather, binding or welting. If you feel that a warranty issue has arisen with your Akadema glove that was purchased from JustGloves and it has been 9 months or less since the purchase, please contact the Glove Experts from JustGloves. The Glove Experts are knowledgeable of the warranty processes and can help you get set up with directions for doing a warranty replacement with Akadema.

Pros: This glove is clearly designed with a kids hand in mind. Great glove for youth. Fits my 9U Little League, All Star/Select Team player perfect. Mine loves it and uses it primarily as his outfield glove but could easily be used at most positions. Broke in as you would suspect a nice glove. Took some time but has a good shape. We would and have recommended this glove.

Cons: None.

Pros: My son is an 11u lefty on the small side and this glove fits perfect. He could not be happier with the glove. We worked at breaking it in with a glove mallet. Worked great.

Cons: Very stiff right out of the box.

Awesome Glove Baseball Dad parent

Pros: Very durable, excellent quality. Works awesome for my son who plays a variety of positions at 12u. My son loves it. It is also different because you do not see too many of them around at tournaments. Lots of parents and kids ask about it.

Cons: If anything maybe break in time. That is a sign of a good quality glove though.

Nice Glove but having a hard time breaking in Matt Parent

Pros: Well made

Cons: We bought this glove for my 9 year old. I paid extra for the break in but other than having a ball placed inside and a couple elastic bands put around it I’m not sure anything else was done. Glove is very stiff and hard for my son to close even after beating it multiple times with a mallet and oiling it a couple times.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Prodigy 12" Youth Baseball Glove: ARC88? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My son 11 going to be 12 but has a small hand. What would the best option be for outfield play? jfoiii
The Prodigy series is a great glove and game ready. The size is ideal for an outfielder.
KB
I am 13. Is this a good glove for infield? ArsenalBro
For a 13 year old infielder, an 11.5 inch glove is about average. If you prefer a slightly bigger glove than average, this 12 inch model would be a good choice though.
Tyler
Will this glove work for a 8U girl or do I have to purchase a fastpitch mode?. Robert
A baseball glove will not have a large enough pocket for fastpitch. We recommend a 10.0" to 10.50" fastpitch model.
Kara
Trying to decide between the ARC88 and ATM92 for my 10 1/2 year old. He already uses an AGC98 as his primary glove with the wrist strap laced to the smaller position. Alex
The Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth and the Akadema Prodigy Series: ATM92-12 use AkademaLyte Leather for a light weight feel. The only different is the size. We recommend a 11.50" for a 10 1/2 year old.
Kara
What size do you suggest for a 14 year old? Also, what is the quickest way to break-in a new glove? Riclk
The average size Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth With FREE Akadema Sunglasses for a 14 year old that plays multiple positions is 12". If you play only middle infield, that size would be smaller. The best way to break a glove in is to play catch everyday. Also, applying a thin layer of glove oil and letting it soak in helps soften the glove and its leather.
Brandon
I am looking to replace a traditional glove that had all leather finger slots. Does this glove have mesh lined finger slots on the inside? april
Yes, the Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth glove has mesh lined finger stalls.
John H
Would it fit a 15 year old that plays 2nd base? jake
The Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth is designed for a younger player. It is too small for a 15 year old 2nd baseman. We recommend the Akadema Pro Soft Series: AMV218.
Kara
My son is just turning 9, but is 54" tall and 76 lbs. He plays 10U travel ball and currently uses the Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1154 for infield (primarily 3rd base) and performs very well with it. He is looking for a slightly larger glove for dual use pitching/outfield and I was wondering if there are any clear advantages that the Prodigy has over the Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1203? Chris G.
The Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth and the Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1203 will be comparable in their durability and performance. The Akadema does have AkademaLyte Leather on the back of the glove which will make it slightly lighter weight than the Mizuno.
Tori
Which one is softer or have shorter break time, this one or the Mizuno Franchise Series (GFN1200B1)? Alexander
The Akadema Prodigy Series (ARC88) and the Mizuno Franchise Series (GFN1200B1) are both easy to break-in. The Mizuno Franchise is pre-oiled for a slightly softer feel.
Kara
My son is turning 11 this year, he is 90 pounds and plays mostly outfield and sometimes 3rd. I am considering this glove or the Wilson A1KBB41787. Which one do you think would be best? Bubba
The Wilson A1K Series (A1KBB41787) would be a more typical size for a third baseman but the Akadema Prodigy Series (ARC88) may be a better size and style for the combination of positions.
Patrick
Would this glove work for my 10 year old boys? They pitch and play mostly infield. sheila
The Akadema Prodigy Series (ARC88) Youth has a 12" pattern and is a great option for a player that plays multiple positions. The 12" size provides the player with position flexibility.
Jason
I am a 14 year old outfielder. Will this glove be too small? Lane
Typically, the Akadema Prodigy Series (ARC88) would be too small of a fit for a player of that age.
Patrick
My son is 10.5 years old. He's 57.5" tall and weighs 86 lbs. Is this glove too big for him? Jon
The Akadema Prodigy Series: ARC88 Youth should work well for your player since it is a youth fit, designed for younger players.
Logan
Would a 12" work for a 7 year old for outfield? Robin Davidson
A 12" could certainly work for outfield play, even at that age. We do have a Glove Assurance program that only costs $29.99. Glove Assurance allows you to get the glove and try it out for 100 days. If you decide it is not the glove for you within 100 days of the purchase date and you bought Glove Assurance, you can return the glove for a refund.
Kyle
My son is a bigger 12 year old (5’5” and 130 pounds). Would this be too small for his hand? Allen
The recommended age range of the Akadema Prodigy 12" Youth Baseball Glove: ARC88 is from 7-15 year olds. The glove would probably fit for the time being, but he might outgrow it quicker than most.
Leeah
Buying a glove for a woman with small to medium hands. Is this a good choice? ELAINE
The Akadema Prodigy 12" Youth Baseball Glove: ARC88 features a smaller hand setting and could work well for a female player.

About the Brand

In Akadema's short but remarkable history it has become one of America's hottest baseball and softball equipment company for professional, college, high school, and serious youth players. The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
