Description
The Akadema Praying Mantis Catcher's Mitt is made from Akadema's Pro Soft Leather. The Praying Mantis Series uses Pro Soft Leather that is very soft and easy to break-in. Ultimately, the Praying Mantis Series design provides the player with a more pliable glove. This allows for easier break-in. The APM241 combines the quality and softness of the Pro Soft Soft Series with the technology of the Praying Mantis design. The Akadema patent Praying Mantis is the most innovative catcher's mitt ever to hit the market, with many unique features setting it apart from the competition. With new patent "Stress Wedge" technology, located between the index finger and thumb, the Praying Mantis offers shock-absorbing protection for the hand against injury and sting when receiving the ball. The Praying Mantis also offers two additional "Finger Hammocks" allowing the fingers to be firmly positioned and more secure in the glove. Additional features include the Double-sided Slim Padding allowing for increased pocket size and easier ball retention. Uniquely designed shape allows the throwing hand easier access in the pocket, resulting in a quicker glove to hand transfer and faster times to second base. Chris
Pros: Great quality for the price.
Cons: It just seemed huge. My 13 year old son felt like it was humongous, and it was big on my hand as well. We went with a smaller, more youth-oriented model.
Kevin
Pros: Was shocked at the quick break in. My son is 11 and this is a massive upgrade from the youth glove he was catching with. He's found it easier to get the ball out and has zero sting. Very impressed.
Cons:
Great Purchase Mom Parent
Pros: Bought for son when he started playing catcher on his HS team. Needed something quality that could hold up against HS pitchers, but also something that would be game ready relatively quickly (needed to replace another catchers mitt that wasn't doing the job). Also, we weren't in the market for a super expensive glove because we weren't sure he would be playing catcher past this season. He used it in practice for a week to catch bullpen, worked with it at home to break it in, and was able to use it in a game within a week. But it still has enough structure to protect his hand and last the season without falling apart. And it was on sale, which made mom happy. He says it snaps closed, holds the ball in the pocket, and is a great glove. He feels like it is helping him be successful. The other catchers on the team are now looking to buy one for themselves.
Cons: None
Very nice mitt! Shawn Parent
Pros: Good Lookin mitt Constructed well Quality leather Broke in nice I'm a parent that used to be a catcher. I bought this to play catch with my son hoping to spark the interest in him.
Cons: Very stiff initially but after lots of conditioner and rapping with ball in palm, it broke in very nicely
Nice Glove - EXTREMELY STIFF Danny Coach
Pros: Large pocket, good quality leather, should last a long time.
Cons: STIFF - OMG this glove is rock hard out of the box.
Akadema Praying Mantis Mike Parent
Pros: Very Good Quality leather. Takes some work to break in so it should last a while. Also looks really cool!
Cons: None yet
Great glove for the price Matt Parent
Pros: This is an excellent glove especially for this price level. Great padding. My 11 year old stopped using the extra thumb guard he was using in his other glove. He said this glove had enough padding that he didn't need it. Break in was quicker than expected. Had it steamed and used some break in oil. My son was catching games with it in 2 days.
Cons: None
Catchers mitt Justin Parent
Pros: Good at first. Center has a large pad in the palm.
Cons: The ball pops out the web easily. There is no adjustment for the pocket. Large padding in the palm breaks in too quick
Great mitt Nick M Parent
Pros: Price, comfort, easy break in. Bought this to catch for my son when his velocity became too high for my regular glove. I’ve been really happy with it. I usually end up using it for long toss too. Great mitt.
Cons: None
Not Happy Shane Parent
Pros: No Pro's as the mitt has not made it out of break in yet
Cons: The synthetic leather has already started to peel while attempting to break the mitt in for spring season
Akadema praying mantis David Sutherland Player

Cons: It takes forever to break in
Glove was so hard to break in Clay Parent
Pros: Has some neat features
Cons: Terrible to break in.purchased in February and never did get broke in. Then broke leather ripped while hitting in pocket. Never used in game .Would not recommend to anyone.
Hate using this glove Richard R. Player
Pros: Comfortable on my hand
Cons: Very shallow web Seems smaller than other 33” gloves Plastic welting already peeling off Lots of wrinkles and bubbles in palm

Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!
Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on.
