Description

New for For over 125 years, Rawlings has consistently released only the highest quality and longest lasting game day gloves in baseball and the Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series has always been a fielder's top choice. The Dual Core Technology associated with these gloves is a cut into the palm lining allowing for position specific break points for a personalized fit and an easy, natural closure. During the catch, the inner palm adjusts to the shape of the outer palm; efficiently absorbing impact and protecting the player's hand from any sting. Additionally, since these gloves consist of the exclusive Horween "Featherlite" leather, the Dual Core baseball gloves undergo a rigorous tanning process which results in a soft, game-ready feel and less of a break-in period. Rawlings has done a lot of the work for you and applied a 75% factory break-in to these models. Not only is there less of a break-in period, but since the palm lining is the same material as the shell, the Heart of the Hide Dual Core gloves experience a consistent break-in and have excellent pocket formation throughout the life of the glove. Similar to that of other Rawlings ball gloves, the Tennessee tanning rawhide leather laces tie it all together while adding structure, durability, and strength. Last, but not least, the thumb loops will come padded for a luxurious and comfortable feel. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro!

This Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B features an 11.25 inch pattern, a pro I-web, and is intended for a middle infielder. Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Would this glove fit a 9 year old? BB Dad
Although a 9 year old can handle the 11.25" length of this 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove (PRO217DC-2B), the fitting on this glove will be for an adult male hand and may be a little large for use by your 9 year old.
Ben
How much easier of a break in is the dual core model versus the regular model? I have an 11-12 year old son so I want the break in to be a little easier given his hand will be smaller. Would you recommend the dual core model or the narrow regular model? Greg
Dual Core Technology softens the leather at specific points that most infielders like to be a bit looser when they squeeze the glove. Because of this, the glove comes more broken in than the Narrow Fit model, with 75% of the break-in done by the factory. However the Narrow Fit series is designed to fit smaller hands, so you will need to take that into consideration.

Would this be a good glove for an 11 year old? Ricco
This glove is designed to fit an adult sized hand, so as long as their hand size is adequate enough for the glove, it would certainly be a great option.
Kyle J.
Is this comparable to the PRO88DCC, or which model is? I want to replace the PRO88DCC with comparable model. Paul
Yes, the 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B is a very comparable option to the PRO88DCC. Both options feature the same Horween leather, Dual Core technology, and have the same 11.25" pattern. The main difference is the cosmetics.
Jason
I am looking at this glove in a narrow fit design 2018. Is it a good choice for a 10 year old infielder or do you feel it will be too stiff? Eddy
The equivalent of the 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B in a narrow fit design could make an excellent choice for a 10 year old player. Although the Rawlings HOH models will be stiff out of the box the Dual Core Technology will help ease the break in thanks to the position specific break in points that are already established. If wanting something that requires little to no break in then the Rawlings Gamer lineup would make a better choice.
Cameron
I am a 15 year old high school ball player and I'm looking for a new glove. Would you recommend this or something else? Zach
The 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B is a great choice for your age, however, the best glove will be dependent on the position you play.
Tori
My son is a 6'3'' and 15 years old. Will this glove fit him or is it too small? Cat
The 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.25" Baseball Glove: PRO217DC-2B is and adult glove and should fit his hand.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
