Pros: #1 and most important. IT'S MADE IN THE USA. Sad but true, its the only glove you can buy that's made in America. #2 Awesome glove, that breaks in really easy. Great leather. My 9 year old son loves it. My 11 year old also has a Nokona and so do I.

Cons: The price. Not cheap. But worth it when you are supporting American workers and company.

Really nice glove Larry parent

Pros: This is a really nice glove. Bought it for my 10 yr old. He is slightly taller than average for his age but not a large kid. I called Nokona because I was unsure what size to get for him. I went with the S-V1. I think next size down may have worked for a season and it would have been too small. Leather and quality are amazing. I was going to buy a "good" $100 glove for him but heard about Nokona from a co-worker and looked at some reviews. Great reviews everywhere and now we know why. Time to get my daughter a fast pitch glove.

Cons: None

Great glove! Cole Coach

Pros: Bought this for my 10 year old as it is hard to find good gloves for lefties. The leather is soft, the velcro strap is also perfect for smaller kids hands and it was broken in after about 5 practices without using any lotions or conditioners. He loves it!

Cons: None as of yet.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Nokona Alpha 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Why is this glove considered an outfielder glove vs the S100-1 being an infielder? Rick
The Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove (SV1) is going to be an 11.25" glove making it possible for infield or outfield use for a youth baseball player while the Nokona Alpha Select Series Baseball Glove (S-100) Youth is a 10.5" glove making is more ideal for strictly infield use.
Carter
What is the difference between the S-V1 and the S-200? I have twins that are 11 yo and 57 LBS. One righty and one lefty. I bought the lefty the S-200 last year and the righty is ready for a glove this year. They both play infield, outfield and pitch. Kevin Groth
The main difference between the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 and the Nokona Alpha Select Series Baseball Glove: S-200 Youth is the web design; one model features the I-Web (S-V1) while the other has a modified T-Web (S-200). As well, the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 will weigh slightly more.
Cameron
Is this a outfield glove? Chris
The Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 could be an outfield glove for a player around 8 or 9 years old or younger. For players older than that, it would better suit an infielder.
Logan
How does this glove perform with youth softball (11” ball)? My daughter plays select softball and would like a quality glove. Casey
The Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 is a high quality glove but might be small when using an 11 inch ball. You may want to consider an 11.50 inch glove, which some of these Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 could very well be as Nokona labels this glove as 11.25 (+/- 0.25 inches). If you went with this glove it would be best to simply put the ball inside the glove before using it. That way, if you decide or feel it is too small, you can return the item for a refund.
Cameron
Can this glove be used for girls fastpitch softball 8u travel player? Lorie
There is a good possibility that the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 could be used at the 8U fastpitch softball level. The only concern is that the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 is listed as 11.25 (+/- 0.25). If this glove is coming in at closer to 11 inches then it might not be a great option for 8U fastpitch.
Cameron
I have larger hands for my age. Would this fit my hands? Ryker Ream
The Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 is an ideal glove for someone between the ages of 8-12. Since it has a youth fit to it, some youth players with larger hands might not find the fit to their liking.
Cameron
My soon to be 9 yr old currently on year 2 with the 11.25 Rawlings R9. He’s playing a ton of 10u baseball. The R9 is losing its firmness in the wrong areas. Kids now throwing harder, I want to get something with better/longer lasting leather. This seems like the glove but is this the 14u version as per Nokona's website? Would think it’s too big on the hand. He’s not a big kid. What are your thoughts please. Nick
The Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 would be a great option to consider for a 9 year old player. In our opinion, we do not feel it would be too big for a 9 year old, in terms of the hand fitting.
Cameron
My son is 12 is this glove too small since it’s a youth ? He is pitcher/ outfielder Rob
No, this Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 could likely still fit a player his age.
Ryan
Trying to decide between this size or the 10.5 for my son - he is 8, 4'2"/52 lbs. and a lefty. Currently in a 10.5 which fits well, but it is a lower quality mitt and looking to upgrade. Wondering with the investment, if we should go ahead and size up. Thank you so much - Mariel
It might not be a bad idea to size up a little so he can grow into it. As he ages, he will need a bigger glove.
Dillon
Will this glove work for an 11 year old softball player with smaller hands? Jen
Yes, the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 could be used for a younger softball player. A player at 11 years of age may not get a lot of use out of the glove though as players start to go to 11.50, and some 11.75 inches, around 12 and 13 years of age.
Cameron
My grandson is 9 yrs old and I am not sure what size to get him? Jesse
For a 9 year old player we would recommend a glove at 11.25-11.50 inches. This Nokona Alpha 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-V1 would be an excellent option to consider.

About the Brand

Joe Phillips writes about his visit to Nokona. It was like sitting in at the plantation party in Gone with the Wind or maybe gazing from the grandstand at the “Field of Dreams” while the Black Sox players tried to work out their idled muscle kinks. And, I was gently reminded by the lines in that movie while I dug into a delicious plate of North Texas barbecue: “threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. . . You talk a good dream.” And here I was. . . graciously invited into this magical and charming “Field of Glove-Making Dreams” in former Comanche Indian land at Nocona, Texas. It was a warm August evening, basked in a golden harvest moon, while friends and the Nokona family paid its kindly southern regards to two of their own and two of America’s finest but relatively obscure glove makers, Bobby Storey and Elvin Ray “Ab” Lemons. You see, the pair had just completed fifty years of time-honored employment with Nocona Athletic Goods, the last of the all-American made ball glove company's. The occasion brought echoes of past successes and human contentment, but in Nocona today you still experience much the same American texture of yesterday and perhaps a glimpse into tomorrow as well.

The two stately gentlemen were being honored in a way that could have taken place in the same manner when they first reported for full-time work at Nokona, in 1952, or back even earlier, in 1933 when the company started making sports equipment. During a brief and informal presentation at the celebration, Nokona’s new sales manager called the two glove makers “Legends - because that’s what their ball gloves stood for, American know-how and pride taken in a best-made product.”

A man of few words but a marveled craftsman who could literally conjure a sows ear into a playable baseball mitt, Mr. Lemons got up and fondly recalled the several men he worked with through his half-century and of the training that had been passed along to him from his old bosses.

His counter part and just as talented, Bobby Storey, had filled in at just about every job at Nokona. Bobby, the son of the sporting goods founder, R.E. “Bob” Storey had most recently served as president and now chairman of the board of Nokona. Though past retirement age like Mr. Lemons, he’s now serving at one of his favorite roles, that of ball glove designer.

At a time for employment in this country when five years is considered a long tenure with the same company, Ab and Bobby are not even the first to complete a half-century journey with Nocona Athletics. The now deceased Jewell Brickey, hit that milestone in 1993, after joining the company during World War II. That’s the kind of devotion that employees forge into this glove-making outfit. A devoted and sustained tenure here is not rare. Last year the company advertising, displayed along with Storey and Lemons, three other employees who had garnered 40 years with Nokona, Warren Clary, Bud Meekins, and Melvin Weedin.“

I don’t have to tell you that the one constant through all the years has been baseball”, wrote W.P. Kinsella. And the most constant of ball glove makers has been Nokona, and the men and women there who keep alive the tradition of American craftsmanship of ball glove making. The spirit of glove-making is still alive and well in Nocona, Texas.
