Wil

Pros: I purchased this glove for middle infield in slow pitch softball, and it is perfect in ever way for this task. Leather is fantastic, and as advertised, game ready right from the box. The finger area and strap are nice and snug, and the pocket is perfect, even for a softball. You do get what you pay for, and when compared to other gloves (Rawlings, Nike, etc) at this price point, this has them beat in leather quality, craftsmanship, game ready shape and weight. Made in USA is icing on the cake.

Cons: It wasn't available sooner.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Nokona X2 Elite 12" Baseball Glove: X2-1200? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does this glove compare to Wilson's A2K or A2000 series gloves? Andre
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) will feature a more game ready feel than the Wilson A2K or A2000 due to the use of kangaroo leather in it's construction. All three gloves will be premium quality and have exceptional durability. The Nokona X2 Elite is handmade in the United States.
Patrick
How would this glove work for slow pitch softball? I play 2nd base and occasionally RF. Is the pocket suitable like the Walnut and Banana Tan models? JD
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) would be a good glove for softball infield. The 12" size and pocket would be better suited for play in baseball but would be very comfortable for you as well. The Walnut leather would be more stiff and take longer to break-in. The Banana Tan and the X2 Elite would be a softer leather and be nearly game ready out of the wrapper.
Brandon
Is this a softball glove or a baseball glove? jocko
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) is designed for baseball use but could also be used for slow pitch softball.
Patrick
Would this glove be good for a high school third baseman? Hopi
Yes, this Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) would make a good option for a high school third baseman. Typically, third basemen will use gloves that are between 11.50" and about 12.00" or 12.25".
Mac
Would this be a good size for a high school outfield glove? My son plays a little middle infield as well, but mostly center field. jdavis
The 12 inch design of the Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) would be slightly small compared to some outfield models but would be a good size to play between an outfield and infield position and should work just fine for what you are wanting.
Patrick
What is the difference between the Elite and Alpha Series? Lu
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) is made out of Kangaroo and Stampede leathers. The Kangaroo leather allows for the glove to be game ready and light weight from the beginning. The Alpha series is made out of Buffalo and Stampede leathers. Both models are very high end gloves, but the Alpha series will require a slight break-in period.
Jason
Is this a youth fastpitch softball glove ? Softball Question
No, The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) is an adult model. The Nokona Alpha Select Series and the Nokona X2 Elite Neon Series will be the youth models.
Frankie
How will it fit medium adult male hand size? geeter
The Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) will fit an adult male with a medium sized hand.
John
I am twelve years old and am looking for a glove to last me through high school. I play mostly pitcher, third, and shortstop. (1) Will this glove be good? (2) Also, what is the break in time? Curious George
(1) The 12.00" length of this Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) will make it a glove that could certainly be used on the mound by a player that is middle school - high school aged. At shortstop it could be a little long for use, but it should be good for third base use. (2) In regard to break-in time, this glove should become game-ready for you with a small amount of use.
Ben
I have this glove and I play 3B, 2B and SS. However, it feels too big and floppy sometimes. I want to switch to a Wilson. (1) Would an A2000 in the 11.5" length be much smaller or about the same? (2) Can an A2000 be used at 3B? mike
An A2000 in the 11.5" length will be smaller than this Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) and it will be noticeably smaller. (2) Yes, you could use an A2000 in the 11.5" length at 3B if you wish (however, it will be smaller than the regularly suggested 11.75" length for 3B).
Ben
My son is 12 1/2, and has an 11.25" Akadema that he's been playing with for 4 years, and is wearing out (we play year round travel baseball). The Akadema also seems to be getting small for him. He pitches, and plays first base (has a 1st baseman's glove) and outfield. He's looking at a new glove for outfield and pitching. Is a 12" glove the right size for him? Will it take him into high school? Would this glove be the best choice? Dan Streuber
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1200 features a 12.00 inch pattern and is a great size/model to consider for a teenage player who is seeking a glove for both the OF and pitcher positions. This model will allow for transition into high school as the player physically develops as it features an adult fitting wrist and finger stalls. As well, the Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1200 is constructed from kangaroo and stampede leathers to help the glove last for multiple seasons. This makes it a perfect fit for a year round player as kangaroo leather is one of the toughest leathers in the world.
Cameron
Is this glove too small for varsity softball? I am a middle infield and pitcher (15 yrs old). peewee
This Nokona X2 Elite Series (X2-1200) is actually designed for use by an adult male that is playing pitcher (for baseball). I would not recommend for fastpitch softball use. However, if you wanted a 12" mitt for middle infield as a fastpitch player, you can certainly do so. Sadly, we do not have any 12" fastpitch Nokona mitts available at this time. If you wanted a Nokona fastpitch glove at 12.25", you could look to the Nokona X2 Buckaroo Series Fastpitch Glove (X2-V1250).
Ben
Will this X2 Elite X2-1200 feel and fit the same as the Alpha Select S-7T ? Mike
No, the Alpha Select S-7T will have a slightly tighter, more intermediate age fit than the X2.
Kyle
Is the used glove one that was returned or one that was used for a long time? Mike
At the time of this posting, we have one used option of the Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1200 that is listed in "good condition." This model will look and appear as a used glove out of the box and will be completely broken in. All used gloves feature a 30 day guarantee from Justballgloves.com.
Cameron
Hope all is well. My son is using a Nokona X2 Elite X2-1200 and loves it. I want to know is the Nokona X2 V1200C the same glove except for the hand strap? He is 12 and the glove is a little loose which the strap would work great for a smaller hand. Michael Caporusso
The Nokona X2 Elite Series: X2-1200 is a baseball glove designed ideally for a pitcher at the high school level or above. Meanwhile, the Nokona X2 Elite 12" Fastpitch Softball Glove: X2-V1200C is a fastpitch softball glove; this glove is best used for an infielder.
Cameron
My son turns 11 this summer and playing 11U. He plays Pitcher, SS and CF. His favorite glove Mizuno Prospect 11.5in has seen its day and we are struggling to find a glove that offers sufficient palm padding. He has been using my old Rawlings “Jose Canseco” 12in RBG59 but the padding is so worn that he often complains about hand stinging. He’s about 5’ tall and 90lbs and we are ready to make the proper investment for his next fielding glove. Nokona has been recommended but I have not seen any comments on palm padding. He has a separate 1st base & catcher’s mitt so, we are hoping to find the best Nokona option for his next few years on the field. Emanuel Torres
The Nokona X2 Elite 12" Baseball Glove: X2-1200 is a great option for an advanced player. With kangaroo leather, the palm of the glove should be sufficiently padded.

About the Brand

Joe Phillips writes about his visit to Nokona. It was like sitting in at the plantation party in Gone with the Wind or maybe gazing from the grandstand at the “Field of Dreams” while the Black Sox players tried to work out their idled muscle kinks. And, I was gently reminded by the lines in that movie while I dug into a delicious plate of North Texas barbecue: “threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. . . You talk a good dream.” And here I was. . . graciously invited into this magical and charming “Field of Glove-Making Dreams” in former Comanche Indian land at Nocona, Texas. It was a warm August evening, basked in a golden harvest moon, while friends and the Nokona family paid its kindly southern regards to two of their own and two of America’s finest but relatively obscure glove makers, Bobby Storey and Elvin Ray “Ab” Lemons. You see, the pair had just completed fifty years of time-honored employment with Nocona Athletic Goods, the last of the all-American made ball glove company's. The occasion brought echoes of past successes and human contentment, but in Nocona today you still experience much the same American texture of yesterday and perhaps a glimpse into tomorrow as well.

The two stately gentlemen were being honored in a way that could have taken place in the same manner when they first reported for full-time work at Nokona, in 1952, or back even earlier, in 1933 when the company started making sports equipment. During a brief and informal presentation at the celebration, Nokona’s new sales manager called the two glove makers “Legends - because that’s what their ball gloves stood for, American know-how and pride taken in a best-made product.”

A man of few words but a marveled craftsman who could literally conjure a sows ear into a playable baseball mitt, Mr. Lemons got up and fondly recalled the several men he worked with through his half-century and of the training that had been passed along to him from his old bosses.

His counter part and just as talented, Bobby Storey, had filled in at just about every job at Nokona. Bobby, the son of the sporting goods founder, R.E. “Bob” Storey had most recently served as president and now chairman of the board of Nokona. Though past retirement age like Mr. Lemons, he’s now serving at one of his favorite roles, that of ball glove designer.

At a time for employment in this country when five years is considered a long tenure with the same company, Ab and Bobby are not even the first to complete a half-century journey with Nocona Athletics. The now deceased Jewell Brickey, hit that milestone in 1993, after joining the company during World War II. That’s the kind of devotion that employees forge into this glove-making outfit. A devoted and sustained tenure here is not rare. Last year the company advertising, displayed along with Storey and Lemons, three other employees who had garnered 40 years with Nokona, Warren Clary, Bud Meekins, and Melvin Weedin.“

I don’t have to tell you that the one constant through all the years has been baseball”, wrote W.P. Kinsella. And the most constant of ball glove makers has been Nokona, and the men and women there who keep alive the tradition of American craftsmanship of ball glove making. The spirit of glove-making is still alive and well in Nocona, Texas.
